A Tale of a Happy Girl

She smiles after a tiring day at work. She complains of stress but does not let stress reign over her. She sings when she feels like doing so. Her voice may not be the popstar kind of voice, but the joy that radiates from every broken note is quite contagious. She dances when the beat is just so irresistible. Her moves won't compare to those you've watched in Step-Up movies, but watching her makes you smile, and you'll just feel the urge to tap your feet slowly and bang your head up and down as you let the good vibe consume you.

She's not angelic. She throws pranks and jokes like a pro. She has the tendency to tease people until the point of irritation. But you won't get mad at her that easily, 'cause you know that CRAZY is her middle name. And you accept her as she is. All the "trips" included. She knows the art of lighting the room up when the spirit of the people in it starts to flicker. A happy girl shares happiness.

She finds joy in the simplest things. Be it dancing lights, lollipops, ribbons, colorful walls, a clear sky, some sweet text message, the cute emojis in her chat box, seeing her crush pass by, listening to her updated playlist, seeing a father-daughter tandem in the mall, coffee jelly, and the list goes on and on. Appreciation. It's the keyword. For how can you find the joy in the grandest of things when you can't even appreciate the simplest and most random things around you?

True group of friends. It's one of her reservoirs of joy. She doesn't keep tons of acquaintances, she prefers the genuine bunch who surely knows her tickle spots. She goes to quality over quantity. A happy girl can be the life of a get-together. She knows stories to spice up conversations. She listens when the moment needs for a listener. Happiness is when she's able to lend her shoulder to someone who's feeling low. Happiness is being able to cheer a friend who needs a temporary cheerleader. Happiness is being happy to see her friends happy.

A happy girl enjoys travelling. Discovering new places, meeting new people, taking selfies with new backgrounds, eating new delicacies and discovering that "adobong native na manok" at home still won't compare to any sumptuous meal there is on the land. Yes, she loves and enjoys travelling, but home is still the bestest place on earth for her. It's when she's genuinely happy lounging on the "duyan" while listening to the same old corny stories of her folks. Happiness is going back home and finding true home. With  her messy hair, her worn-out shirt, her old slipper, no lipstick, no eyeliner -- but with family. The city may entice and excite her, but rural living is still on the top of her bucketlist. It's when she's fully recuperated and rejuvenated again that's she's happy beyond words.
A happy girl smiles not with her lips but with her eyes. She laughs not with her mouth bu with her heart. She knows to shed a tear when it is due, be it because of a hardcore joke or some nasty breakup story. The thing is she knows that life is compartmentalized with both the good and the bad, and she accepts it as it is. She understands what equilibrium is, the existence of both comedy ad tragedy stories. But she knows well to learn from a tragedy and enjoy and live with the comedy.

For happiness is a choice, and she chose to be happy. Happiness is not just the color red, it's every color that the rainbow has to offer. Happiness is being the both the fool and the sage in you. Happiness is being with the right group of people, at the most random time, in the weirdest place you never thought you'll ever be. Happiness is getting drunk and realizing the next morning that beer is not for you. Happiness is going to the beach though you have a fear of being in deep waters. Happiness is texting your special someone "i miss you" and not expecting a reply, 'cause trust me, receiving an "i miss you too" reply is a whole different story.

So yeah, savor happiness. She is happy, you should be, too. There are gazillion reasons to be happy, and share it, and live with it. A tale of a happy girl should be the tale of all the girls around.

Tups is happy. :)
